TKBGC's Statement on Anti-Racism Protests and Call for Change.

Published June 03, 2020 18:04

June 3, 2020 - Sometimes it is hard to know when, where and how to comment on issues that challenge the freedom and well being of our community.

The past week has been one of heartbreak and pain for many and we need to acknowledge what is happening in the world, our city and the communities we serve.

We want to be honest. We want to be accountable. We want to be leaders.

Racism simply cannot be tolerated in any form, in any way. And while we often point to systemic racism in the U.S., that racism is also prevalent here in Canada.

Three of our core values—Belonging, Respect, Speaking Out—are central to our approach of inclusion in our Club. It is imperative that we work hard to take responsibility, to lead, and to demolish the inequities that racism has created.

Black, Indigenous, and all youth of colour have the right to be full participants in society and to walk without fear.

We recognize that we have the platform to affect change and we have the opportunity each and everyday to teach young people and have these tough conversations.

Our Club is committed to having the difficult conversations and open dialogue that are necessary to move forward. We are dedicated to being an active part of the solution.

LISTEN. LEARN. CHANGE.
